Bio

John Wright is a name synonymous with Cricket. As an international batsman for New Zealand, he  became the first New Zealander to score 5000 test runs and went on to be the coach of the New Zealand Cricket team and the Indian Cricket team.

On the road as an international cricket player and coach you clock up hotel hours. John preferred to pick up his guitar and write songs,  rather than do crosswords. Finally those songs and stories have made their way onto an album, recorded over two years with Sou’Westers Liam Ryan and Dean Hetherington.

The songs are thoughtful compositions upbeat folk blues with country flavours. A most enjoyable listening album.

John launched the album 'Red Skies' in April 2017 and his debut single and video 'Drivin' into Mot' in Motueka to a joyous audience who enjoyed John telling his cricketing tales through both song and spoken word. He has gone on to record a digital EP release and now in 2021 his new album 'Walking Tracks'
